The
Society of Ghana Women's Medical and Dental Practitioners
(SGWMDP) is an association under the umbrella organisation
Medical Women's International
Association (MWIA).
A brief history of SGWMDP
The society of women medical and dental practitioners
was born in 1965 with a membership of only eight female
doctors. The take-off was somewhat shaky, with several
hurdles the least of which was the distance between
the women. It was not till about ten years later on
1975, with a significant increase in the number of women
docters in the country, that a general meeting was held
with the aim of rejuvenating the society. There were
thirty ladies at that meeting. On friday 17th November
1975 the society was formally inaugurated at 5:30pm.
